Sandstone with oysters fossils

Lithogenous and biogenous sedimentary rock.
Oyster shells imbedded in sandstone. Sea cliff outcrops of the Eocene-age Delmar Formation along the San Diego coastline display beds of whole and fragmented oyster shells. Today, oysters live in restricted bay or estuarine environments near the coastline. This sample is a beach cobble from Del Mar Dog Beach, San Diego County, California.
